Courses resume this week

The final set of free IT courses starts this week on Wednesday morning. Tutors from 'eVolve your future' will be covering a range of topics Wednesday 9.30-12 am, Friday 2-4pm and Saturday 10-12 and 1-3pm. Call us on 01780 470125 to check availability.

These courses have been funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales over the last two years.

Ebay workshops

Ebay workshops are planned for Saturday 4th April 0930-1230 to cover Selling, and Tuesday 7th April 1330-1630 to cover Buying. Cost £10 per person for each, limited to 12 places. Call 01780 470125 or email us to reserve your place.

CLAiT course later in 2009?

We are considering running a CLAiT course later in the year in partnership with WEA. CLAiT is a recognised qualification with three levels and may help people looking for work in areas that require such a qualification.

CLAIT is adminstered and examined by OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations) who specialise in vocational and workplace education for learners of all ages.

Upholstery Course.

The practical Upholstery course for beginners will run for another 8 week session commencing 20th April. This course is organised by WEA and requires a minimum of 10 people to run.

Youth club web site

The Underground Youth Club, which meets every Wednesday 7-9pm in Resource, is building itself a web site which you can see by clicking this link

Resource use OpenDNS

Resource has started using OpenDNS on the broadband connection. This provides a degree of content filtering and security by denying access to blacklisted sites.

Courses update

The free IT courses, funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England & Wales, resume on 22nd April. We run three courses each week, Wednesday morning 10-12, Friday afternoon 2-4 and Saturday morning 10-12.

A "foundation" course for beginners may also be added, subject to demand.

New Year, new people

Debbie Balmer has stepped down as Manager of Resource at the end of 2008, her role will be taken up by Susan Thompson with assistance from her husband Phil and Katy Weekes. We would like to record our thanks to Debbie for her sterling efforts over the last 2 years.

Open Source at Resource

Our IT project includes Open Source software to allow users to try another Operating System (Ubuntu) and Office Suite (Open Office). This is done by "multibooting" PCs into one of either Windows XP, Vista or Ubuntu. OpenOffice will be available on all three operating systems.

Future learning sessions.

What would you like to find out about at Resource ?

Some possible low-cost training sessions (£10 per head) can be arranged to cover topics such as :-

1. Build a web site free with Google
2. How to clean up a slow or infected PC using free tools
3. Free / Open Source software for beginners.

Each of these would be a 2-2.5 hour session with hands-on practice as well as handouts and/or a CD to take home. To cover costs we would need ~10 people per session.

Please let us know if any of these are of interest, or if you have other requests. Please also indicate whether you prefer morning/afternoon/evening sessions and on which days.
