Open Source at Resource

Our IT project includes Open Source software to allow users to try another Operating System (Ubuntu) and Office Suite (Open Office). This is done by "multibooting" PCs into one of either Windows XP, Vista or Ubuntu. OpenOffice will be available on all three operating systems.
Open Source software is often free of charge and is always free of complex ownership and licensing requirements. This can save the user money or allow them to do things that would otherwise be difficult. Security and virus resistance are generally better than Windows products.
Ubuntu is a popular version of Linux for laptop or desktop PCs. It includes quite a lot of applications software (including OpenOffice) and can be customised to suit individual needs and tastes. You can try out Ubuntu without installing it by using a LiveCD or requesting a CD here.
OpenOffice is a free comprehensive Office suite with word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, database etc. It is fully compatible with Microsoft Office file formats and will run on Windows, Linux, Mac etc. You can download a copy here.
